A Case of Tropical Typhus Serologically Related to 'Scrub Typhus' of the Federated Malay States

چکیده
In a recent publication, Kundu (1932) described a case of typhus fever contracted in Burma, the clinical diagnosis being confirmed by a strongly positive Weil-Felix reaction with proteus X19. In the conclusions to his paper Kundu refers to the possibility of the tropical typhus which occurs in Malaya overlapping into Burma, and suggested that further investigation in the future would probably reveal the presence in this country of more cases of fever of this type. Experience in Malaya has shown (Fletcher, 1930) that in that country ' tropical typhus01 two distinct serological varieties is met withThe first of these occurs among the urban population and is designated the ' W' group or 1 shop typhus'. The serum of patients suffering from this type of the disease gives a positive agglutination reaction with the ordinary X19 straU1 of proteus. The other variety, occurring among the rural population, is called the ' K' group

Short report: detection of Orientia tsutsugamushi in clinical samples by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction.
Orientia tsutsugamushi infection causes scrub typhus, a common zoonosis of rural Asia. Orientia tsutsugamushi was recently detected by a real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) assay in animal specimens. We evaluated the same qPCR assay in specimens obtained from patients with serologically proven scrub typhus infections. The 47-kDa qPCR assay was more sensitive than was mouse i...
متن کاملMultiple Eschars in Scrub Typhus
An eschar is highly suggestive of scrub typhus in a case of fever. Multiple eschars are rare in scrub typhus. We present a picture of multiple eschars in scrub typhus.

A descriptive study on rickettsiosis was conducted at the largest referral hospital in Hanoi, Vietnam, to identify epidemiological and clinical characteristics of specific rickettsiosis. Between March 2001 and February 2003, we enrolled 579 patients with acute undifferentiated fever (AUF), excluding patients with malaria, dengue fever, and typhoid fever, and serologically tested for Orientia ts...
متن کاملScrub typhus in the Northern Territory: exceeding the boundaries of Litchfield National Park.
Scrub typhus is recognised as an important differential diagnosis of fever, rash and sepsis in patients with a history of travel to Litchfield National Park in the Top End of the Northern Territory. All confirmed scrub typhus cases to date from the Northern Territory have visited the Park, but the presence of similar rainforest pockets elsewhere in the Top End suggested further infectious locat...
متن کاملA Spatiotemporal Database to Track Human Scrub Typhus Using the VectorMap Application
Scrub typhus is a potentially fatal mite-borne febrile illness, primarily of the Asia-Pacific Rim. With an endemic area greater than 13 million km2 and millions of people at risk, scrub typhus remains an underreported, often misdiagnosed febrile illness. A comprehensive, updatable map of the true distribution of cases has been lacking, and therefore the true risk of disease within the very larg...
